- Cy_Wong With the approach of the Mar 1 deadline for regional awards, we pause to think about the many volunteers who have served Girl Scouts. Every leader is as unique as her troop. We remember our GS mentors, those unselfish leaders who shared their hard-won wisdom With younger leaders in their community. As we put forth the names of the many adults who work with the girls, I'd also like to solicit girls from each community to write about a favorite adult in Scouting. These stories will be collected, edited and submitted to local publications in the month of April which is volunteer appreciation month. (April 22 is leader appreciation day.). Please spread the word at your next community meeting. Send letters and any other supporting documentation to . Help would also be appreciated for this project. Ask a parent in your troop.

- Susan Pontoriero Sorry folks, there is not enough interest for the Rockvile climbing event on Feb. 20th. We needed at least a dozen girls minimum and only had 8. Many troops that asked me to host this event never even signed up for it. Maybe next year. Sue Pontoriero

- Deak Hello! Do you speak Mandarin Chinese, Sichuan Hua, PutongHua or write Simplified Chinese? A 12 year old 7th grade girl and her mom are both recently arrived from Mainland China. They seek Girl Scout friends to help them learn about Girl Scouts and acclimate to the USA. Please contact Deak (Dad) at Gateway Church of Christ in Holmdel NJ is hosting our first annual Fall Festival on October 29, 2011 (1:00pm-5:00pm) at The Williamson Farm 19 Reids Hill Rd Morganville. We are looking for Older Girls who want to earn service hours to come and help us out. We need help with games and activities and in helping to make this a really fun day for the community. This is a free event and we expect to have a very large turn out so will need many helpers. We are also looking for troops who would like to participate in a scarecrow contest that will be open to scout troops only. Gateway will provide a Pumpkin for the head and hay for stuffing. Your troop will bring anything else to make your scarecrow great. You must have your scarecrow ready for judging by 1:30. Prizes will be awarded to troops for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! - Does anyone know how we can connect with other brownie troops so the girls can have a pen pal? Also, I am having trouble finding Brownie Try its too. Ice skating, Rollerskating, Dances, even Rock climbing (hopefully). International Day is Awesome and the GS 100th Birthday will be celebrated on March 10 @ many libraries.

- lscorpio my daughter is 14 and just joined the girl scouts after years of trying to find a troop. Now she is an individual member. Does anyone know what is available for a 14 year old to do?

Cy_Wong My daughter has been independent since since 6th grade. She likes to do the community service and some of the leadership programs. We look through the shore things and keep our ears open for local events. We are friendly with some troop leaders in the area so she is often invited to troop events when it fits her schedule.
