For over ten years, Girl Scouts from Howell/Farmingdale have been taking part in a special holiday service project. The girls make small goody bags for needy people in the Asbury Park area. Each bag contains a few snacks, drinks, and some basics such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, hand lotion, and lip balm. The girls decorate the bags with festive messages and drawings. Each year we take the bags to Trinity Church in Asbury Park where they are distributed through the Saturday Soup and Last Resort food pantry. This year we delivered over 200 bags. Over the years we have had scores of troops participate and delivered thousands of bags. The recipients are always especially grateful not only for the bag contents, but for the individual attention the girls give to each and every one. Here is a photo a a carful of gift bags en route to the church. We had so many, we had to make two trips! |
