The Humanoids #3546 and the Techettes #5648, two Girl Scout Robotics teams, met on Friday, August 27th to prepare for the upcoming 2010 Body Forward FIRST Lego League Challenge. The girls built the field components that will be used in the "Robot Game" portion of the competition. The details of the biomedically themed Body Forward Challenge will be released on September 3rd.

Every September, FLL releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has two parts: the Robot Game and the Project. Teams of up to ten children, with one adult coach, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game) and developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project). Teams may then choose to attend an official tournament, hosted by one of our Operational Partners, or organize/attend a local event to celebrate their accomplishments.  Sept 3rd is the start of the season and the competitions start in Nov/Dec.

Feel Free to stop by and check out the teams!

Adopt-a-Pet Day! PDF Print Email

The Matawan/Aberdeen Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore will be conducting their 2nd Annual Adopt-a-Pet Benefit Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Matawan-Aberdeen Regional High School.

The event will take place between 11:00 am — 3:00 pm with animals from various NJ shelters and rescue agencies available for adoption. In addition, there will be food and beverages, a bake sale, face painting, arts and crafts, as well as pet supplies. Other features include exhibitions by local groomers, pet convenience stores, kennels, pet-sitters and obedience schools. The project benefits local animal shelters by encouraging individuals to choose a wonderful pet to adopt from a rescue organization.

Organized by local troop 1729 of the Jersey Shore area, last year’s Adopt-a-Pet Day was a huge success with a total of 17 pets adopted. Looking forward to another successful event, it has expanded, with almost double the number of animal shelters and agencies attending with a wider variety of animals to choose from.

This event is a great opportunity to find your special furry friend. Matawan-Aberdeen Regional High School is located at 450 Atlantic Avenue in Matawan, NJ. Bring your family and friends. Admission is free. For additional information, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
