In the regional structure, community level activities form the core of the Girl Scout Program. Community volunteers working in small teams plan and implement activities for girls with the support of regional committees and council staff. - Volunteers are encouraged to meet at a local community level to plan and implement activities for girls and for volunteer development needs.
- A community area meeting can vary in size and be based on a team of people, school district, town, or grouping of towns, etc. within the region, depending on the purpose of the meeting. Community areas are not necessarily based on old service unit areas.
- The volunteer chair of an activity or event should schedule the planning meetings and invite interested volunteers.
- The Regional website will maintain a calendar of all community/regional meetings in order to use volunteer time more efficiently. Community volunteer chairs will be able to directly list meetings on the community meeting calendar.
- Regional Directors do not have to attend or be informed of community meetings provided they are properly scheduled on the Regional website; however Regional Directors may choose to attend select community meetings.
- Regional Directors will establish community meetings when necessary.
- Community volunteers can best communicate with each other via email, phone, in person, council Facebook page, message board, bi-monthly eNewsletter (submitting troop news/photos online) and private messaging with customizable/ private distribution lists.
- Community volunteer activity teams may promote/market planned activities/events to other Girl Scouts through:
- Personal emails to targeted recipients
- Regional email blasts
- Mailing of a flyer to targeted recipients
- Phone calls (Robo calls)
- Regional eNews
- Regional Website
