Some of our troops are really experiencing a lot FUN activities.  What have been some of the troop goals that have been accomplished from product sales?  Let's share on Sunset's website.   1. The Jackson Eye Center is inviting troops to tour their facility http://www.theeyecenteratjackson.com/
  2. Rockville Rock Climbing in Hamilton, NJ Ages 6 and up only - 609-631-ROCK (7625)

  4. Atlantic Club Lock-in, Manasquan, NJ - fun overnight with music, movies, swimming - 732-223-2100
  5. Buehler Challenger and Science Center - overnight trip for girls in grades 5 - 7.  If you have 22 girls the price is $65 per girl, 34 girls are less than $50 per girl. 
  6. Orienteering - usually held every fall at the Quail Hill Boy Scout Camp in Manalapan. It is helpful to know some compass and map skills first, but they will teach you. Contact Robert Rycharski. Have a picnic lunch before your scheduled time.
  7. New Jersey Wild Outdoor Expo - FREE   Next one on Sept 17-18, 2011 indicates that the location this year is Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area. Register in advance for orienteering. Bring a bag lunch and water!
  8. Troop camping at Camp Sac or Amity Acres
  9. Challenge Course at Sacajawea Day Camp - start with the first level and move up a level each year. Archery is always a hit on a nice spring day. Add one of these to your own troop camping trips.
  10. Joint Base Lakehurst Tour - Hindenburg Crash Site, Lighter-Than-Air Room, Historic Hangar 1, Ready Room, POW/MIA-Joint Military Room and Gift Shop - Tours are free. No walk-ins or calls-ins are permitted on the day of the tour.   11. The Environmental Center at the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell  Click here to check out the programs they offer. They also offer a naturalist lead tour boat ride at the Reservoir. 
  12. Cheesequake Creek 2011 Kayak Eco-Tours - Middlesex County, & Eco-Tours on Cheesequake Creek, Resource Interpretive Specialist II (includes single kayaks, paddles and pfd's).  Click the file below for dates, pricing, suggested apparel and other important information.
  13. "Self Defense Academy" on Rt. 9 North in Howell (its diagonal to Pathmark, Kmart shopping center).    Girl learn some self-defense drills.  http://www.selfdefense-newjersey.com/
  14. Howell Living History Farm, operated by the Mercer County Park Commission,  takes you back to the early 1900s.  Each year the farm hosts an amazing corn maze.  This year it’s the “Go Hog Wild” corn maze.  
  15. Fix-It Community Service Program out of Whiting, call 732-350-4120.  Ask for Paula Hoffman, the coordinator.  This is administered by Catholic Charities and funded by the Ocean Couty Office of Senior Services to assist homebound elderly residents.

  16. Allaire State Park consists of 3,035 acres located in Monmouth County on New Jersey's Outer Coastal Plain. The park provides opportunities for picnicking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, camping, hunting, and fishing.  Historic Allaire Village is situated within the park. Originally the site of a bog iron furnace and forge that date back to the late 1700's, this self contained community once housed over 400 people.  The park and village host a variety of events throughout the year.

  17. Jersey Shore Pirates out of the Riverfront Marina in Brick, offers young pirates aboard the Sea Gypsy for a swashbuckling Pirate Adventure on the Metedeconk River.  For more information call (732) 899-6100.
  18. Monster Minigolf is an indoor 18 hole, glow-in-the-dark miniture golf facility in Marlboro, just off Route 9.

  19. The Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton exhibits works by well-known and emerging contemporary sculptors in the museum buildings and landscaped sculpture park.  You can take a self-guided tour or guided tours are available by appointment only.   20. Kateri Environmental Center in Marlboro   Kateri helps children to feel comfortable in the outdoors, and hope to engender a feeling of awe and respect for nature, all while having fun.  Kateri Center is part of Collier Youth Services located at 160 Conover Road, Wickatunk, NJ.   21. The Sunset Region is home to a variety of farms with a variety of activities including the opportunity to pick your own fruits and vegatables.  These include:
  • Hallock’s U-Pick Farm in New Egypt where you can pick strawberries in late May-early June to vegatables like spinach, broccoli, brussel spouts and sweet potatoes thought the fall.  Click here for their picking schedule.  
  • Emery’s Blueberry Farm is known for its pies and fresh blueberries. Visitors can come to pick blueberries in the summer and pumpkins in the fall. 
  • DeWolf’s Farm also in New Egypt offers vegatable and pumpkin picking.
  • Strawberry Hill Farm in nearby Chesterfield (Monmouth County) is a pick your own fruit farm offering peaches, nectarines, plums, apples, pears and asian pears.
